Center of Literature Arts Documentation H.B. Jassin

H.B. literary documentation center Jassin is often also known by the abbreviation name Literary Documentation Center (PDS) It is a non-profit organization that seeks to develop and advance the documentation of literature in particular, cultural in general.
    
Hansbaguyasin or H.B. Jassin was born in Gorontalo on 31 July 1917, known as a literary critic, literary, intellectual documentary, humanist, and translator. In 1933, Jassin pioneered diligently collecting, among others: diaries, his writings in mass media, letters and personal photographs. Later in the Dutch and Japanese colonial period his interest increased and documented magazines or newspapers published. His penchant for documenting has been increasingly persistent since H.B. Jassin worked at Balai Pustaka (circa 1940s) as a book reviewer, regularly collecting literary works, either in the form of typed manuscripts or handwriting of authors and literary books.

His activities are always associated with writing to produce a variety of phenomenal works, the original book he wrote a total of 16 titles of translation work 34 titles. In addition HB Yasin became editor of 14 titles and made the introduction to the book of the authors of 35 titles including the Qur'an-faced poetry.

H.B. Jassin understood how vital it was to store cultural results of our literacy. Thus the formation of a library museum archive and special documentation in relation to Indonesian literature, including world literature. On May 30, 1977, it was inaugurated the H.B. Jassin by Haji Ali Sadikin who at that time as the governor of DKI Jakarta, as the only special institution of literary documentation located in Indonesia with a vision and mission of

“Collecting, storing and disseminating documentation of Indonesian literature in order to improve the development of literacy in Indonesia and enhance cultural awareness of the nation whilst meeting international standards.”

In addition to carrying out the main activities is to develop and improve the documentation system and service access and document preservation, other activities undertaken include: exhibition of literary documentation, literary / cultural discussions, literature launch, inter-institutional cooperation of literature / culture, and information networks between libraries / documentation that stand until today.
